Red Plaid Carolyn Pajamas
It’s a Merry Day after Christmas for me! I’ve had some time off for the holidays, so finally had the chance to photograph a few garments that I’ve made recently, including my most recent pair of Closet Case Patterns Carolyn Pajamas! Like I said, it’s the day after Christmas, so that’s why there are no presents under the tree. In our house, we are allowed (let’s be real, it’s a rule I impose) to enjoy the Christmas tree until New Year’s and then New Year’s Day, down it goes. If you celebrate Christmas, how long do you leave the tree up after Christmas? I am always so curious to know…

Nautical Birthday Emery Dress
It’s become a tradition for me to make myself a dress to wear at my annual chicken bingo birthday party and despite how busy I have been this year, I decided I couldn’t break tradition and should sew a dress about a week before the party (this should sound familiar to a lot of you). Thanks to ye old stash, I already had some summery nautical Michal Miller border print fabric in my stash that I had purchased specifically to make a Christine Haynes Emery dress. Details Cut a size 8 at the shoulders and graded to a 12 at the waist. Took shoulders in 1″ Brought up armscye 1/2″ Lengthened bodice…

My Sewing Room
After 10 years of living in my house, I finally get the bigger spare bedroom for my sewing room! The story of this room—and why I haven’t gotten to use it until now—is long and boring. It basically involves having roommates and then being too lazy to switch rooms when Matt moved in (and made it his studio/office). The thing is, this room has a bathroom in it, so we had thought for awhile that it should be a guest room. As we have gotten a bit older—and putting people on the couch was starting to seem inappropriate for us and our guests—we finally realized it was time to make…

Matt’s Birthday Negroni #2
Happy September! Summer feels like it flew by and already the signs of fall are beginning to show; it’s getting dark earlier and the evenings are starting to get chilly. I can’t complain though—I love the changing of the seasons and I’ve had a pretty good summer full of gardening, backyard barbecues, some sewing and knitting, a couple of fun weekend getaways, a garden tour and my annual Chicken Bingo birthday party. I love summer and being outdoors, but I look forward to fall and getting to slow down and head back indoors. It means I can focus more on sewing, knitting AND catching up on blog posts! Check out this…

Polka Dot Chambray Archer Button Up
I sewed my first Archer Button Up last year and it has quickly become a frequently worn wardrobe staple. I was so happy with it, that I knew I wanted to make more. When I was in NY last fall, I picked up a beautiful piece of polka dot chambray with plans to make another Archer. I don’t usually sew the same thing back to back, but with the way I organize my patterns, the pattern pieces stay out on a hanger while I am working on a project and I only have room for so many patterns to be out. When I start a new project, I usually file…

Cloth Habit Harriet Bra
You guys! I made a bra! And I made it over a year ago! In fact, I made it at Camp Workroom Social in 2016. Not last year, but the freakin’ year before. You would think I would have been shouting this from the rooftops, but we all know how life gets and (for those of us that blog) how blogging can take a backseat when things get busy. Normally I would just move on, but this is too good not to share. So here it, in all its bra glory, my Cloth Habit Harriet Bra. I have heard that bra-making is addictive, that once you learn how you can’t stop…

Cotton and Steel Garden Apron
As I write this post, it’s a fairly typical rainy and windy Seattle day. I don’t mind this time of year because this is when I can stay indoors and sew and knit (and not feel guilty about it). It’s also when I can take time to plan ahead for the upcoming gardening season. You can read my posts about garden planning, seed ordering and seed starting to see what kind of planning and getting ready I usually do this time of year, but this year I am getting ready for gardening by making myself a garden apron! Pattern: from One Yard Wonders Fabric: Cotton and Steel Melody Miller Picnic Baskets Neutral As you…

Camp Workroom Social 2017
It’s been almost a month since I was at Camp Workroom Social and I try to keep the “camp” feeling alive as long as I can after it ends. What is the “camp” feeling you ask? Or better yet, what is Camp Workroom Social? If you don’t already know, Camp Workroom Social is a 4 day sewing retreat in the Catskill Mountains, organized by Jennifer Wiese of Workroom Social in Brooklyn, NY. If you went to summer camp as a child, you probably already know what the “camp” feeling is. I only went to summer camp as a pre-teen, so only got to go a couple of times before I aged…
