2020 Word of the Year: Slow
We’re just over a week into February, which means we are almost to the eighth anniversary of Rake and Make! Since I started blogging in 2012, many bloggers have left this sphere in exchange for the shorter form of Instagram. I understand why and sometimes think I should do the same, but what keeps me coming back is the record it keeps for me personally. I am list person. I love the sense of accomplishment checking things off can make me feel. So of course I like setting goals. For many years, I was working on five and ten year goals, much of which I have achieved. As I got…

2019 Goals
Okay, my last post was maybe a little somber, but I swear this post will be way more upbeat. I am actually super excited about this year. Matt and I have dubbed 2019 “The Year of Getting Shit Done”. You know, all of the little nagging things that have been on our to-do lists forever. For him, it’s exhibiting his paintings and for me it’s a lot of what’s listed below. This is the year we have vowed to finally check some of those things off the list! In fact, I have already started. Goal #1: Video As of this posting, I am 4 weeks into an “Intro to Video” class…

2017 Goals
I’m not a big fan of New Year’s resolutions, but sometimes the new year is just the push I need to do the things I’ve been thinking about for a while. The rainy, dark winters in Seattle can make getting motivated challenging and the last few months of 2016 were especially tough. I needed to get out of the rut I was in, so I decided to participate in two New Year’s events through my gym; a Whole30/Reset and a fitness challenge. I also had an unused Dusty Strings gift card, so I signed up for the winter ukulele ensemble session. Between hitting the gym 3 days a week, cooking Whole30 compliant meals and ukulele lessons, January and…

2016 Goals
Last year, I wanted a better sense of balance in my life. I feel like I achieved that by making some big changes, such as getting a new job and being more choosy about what I do with my free time. I’ve been purposely trying to move towards quality over quantity, so this year “intention” feels like it should be the word of the year. From the ads I place for work to the garments I sew, I want everything to be well-thought out and intentional. I believe it will lead to a better end product and a greater sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. GARDENING With that said, I’m going to take it easy on the gardening goals…

2015 Goals
As I sit here with the day off today, my head is a swimming a bit. And no it’s not a champagne hangover… that was yesterday. I have so many ideas and things I want to do this year, but I am also thinking about how I would like more balance in my life. I want to have more fun, hang out with my friends and family more and be more present. The only big plans I have so far this year involve some travel and being a part of other people’s huge life events (a couple of weddings). I could just book the year up, but I’m not going to. I also just…
