Construction notes
For some reason, I was confused by the pocket construction at first (maybe because I was at a sewing retreat and tend to get distracted a bit at those). There is a lining piece to the pocket, which is different from the Halifax Hoodie I am so used to sewing. For some reason it didn’t make sense and I thought it was unnecessary. I also thought it was going to make the jacket too bulky. I finally realized that without it, the pocket has no back seam (so your hand can go all the way through the pocket). Without the lining, I would have had to topstitch it closed and that would be visible on the front of the jacket. It also didn’t make it too bulky with the lining piece, so sometimes you just gotta trust the process.
Final Thoughts
My first version (the blue one) felt longer than I wanted it to be and I think grading was unnecessary as well. For my second version (the gray and black one) I just traced a straight size large and the medium length which is more the way I wanted it to fit.
I had been wanting a workout jacket, so that I didn’t get my regular hoodies—that I wear so much—stinky and these are perfect for that. I also love the color blocking so I could customize it to match my workout clothes.
Now that I have the construction down, this is actually a pretty quick make, so I would definitely make this again!
